Only when Brook's life is threatened do they draw close--but their loyalty may come too late to save Brook from the same threat that led to tragedy for her mother. As heir to a dukedom, Justin is no stranger to balancing responsibilities. When the matters of his estate force him far from Brook, the distance between them reveals that what began as friendship has grown into something much more. But how can their very different loyalties and responsibilities ever come together? And then, for a second time, the heiress of Whitby Park is stolen away because of the very rare treasure in her possession--and this time only the servants of Whitby can save her.
I am somewhat picky when it comes to books, especially when they say they are Christian and romantic. This book, however, met my expectations and even went beyond what I would consider a good story to be. Brooke is a relatable young woman who goes through emotions and experiences that I think many people can relate to. Justin, also, is an amazing character. They in turn are surrounded by the most amazing people, created by Roseanna White, who add so much to the story that "The Lost Heiress" would simply be boring without them. The plot was engaging, the dialogue both serious and humorous, and the mystery truly interesting. Mrs. White has me hooked, line and sinker, with Christian truths interwoven into a story of confusing love and dark mystery. This is a book that, if you love historical fiction, is a must-read.
Similar books would be the next two in the trilogy ("The Reluctant Duchess" and "A Lady Unrivaled"), along with Roseanna M. White's "The Culper Ring" series.
