Here Capon goes again, taking the old story and making it live for us now. I started this book at 7pm and lost a night's sleep because I couldn't put it down. Woke up and had to start reading it all over again. You are put into the drama of Jesus' 3 years ministry in modern times in Cleveland. Jesus is a chef called Jerry who works in an Italian restaurant and Peter is Marvin Goodman who sells women's wear. The imagination in making the feeding of the five thousand by blessing an anchovie pizza is just one of the marvelous real touches in this novel. I knew that there had to be a crucifixion scene but Capon makes you want to not let it happen. You get so close to all the characters and you get to live through their passion as well as the Jesus' character's. It is a whole 'nother trip to take with this writer, but one I will never forget.
