Manny /ma-ne/ n A male nanny or babysitter, known to be handsome, fabulous, and a lover of eighties music. "Be interesting." That's what the manny tells Keats Dalinger the first time he packs Keats's school lunch, but for Keats that's not always the easiest thing to do. Even though he's the only boy at home, it always feels like no one ever remembers him. His sisters are everywhere Lulu is the smart one, India is the creative one, and Belly...well, Belly is the naked one. And the baby. School isn't much better. There, he's the shortest kid in the entire class. But now the manny is the Dalinger's new babysitter, and things are starting to look up. It seems as though the manny always knows the right thing to do. Not everyone likes the manny as much as Keats does, however. Lulu finds the manny embarrassing, and she's started to make a list of all the crazy things that he does, such as serenading the kids with "La Cucaracha" from the front yard or wearing underwear on his head or meeting the school bus with Belly, dressed as limo drivers. Keats is worried. What if Lulu's "Manny Files" makes his parents fire the manny? Who will teach him how to be interesting then?
I read this book in a day, it was so funny that I couldn't wait to read the next page. I wish I had a Manny growing up, it took me years to remember to be interesting (Read this book and you'll understand what that means). I would recommend this book to anyone who needs to understand the word family. This guy neds to write another book!!!

I am a psychotherapist and an avid reader. The author's aunt sent me a copy of The Manny Files to see what I thought about it. My husband and I both read it and loved it. It is such an entertaining and well-written book that we purchused 6 more copies to send to family and friends, children and adults. The author captures and describes the childrens' feelings accurately and with a lighthearted touch. It is very uplifting, so it is also perfect for people who are ill or recovering from surgery. We even have a copy for houseguests to read. So far, EVERYONE has said what a great book it is. No one can believe this was the author's first book. We can't wait for his next book.

This is what every realistic fiction fan has been waiting for: a story about Mary Poppins, male version. Funny, gross and sad at different times, this book can induce giggles, groans or tears, sometimes simultaneously. Knowing the author and a couple of the characters personally just enhances the experience of the book, giving it a whole new level. Such a good book. Can't wait for the movie and the sequal.
great book!

A wonderful romp

Eloise wishes she had the Manny. Christian Burch's book is a delightful romp with the babysitter we all wish we'd had. Reading this book aloud to my kids (ages 16, 13, 10 and 5)at the dinner table, everyone found something hilarious about the exploits of the Dalinger family. If some of the allusions are a bit beyond some young readers, the discussions such questions elicit add to the enjoyment. From Liberace to clothes valets, the kids asked about things and subsequently we all appreciated the book a lot more. Adults will also surely enjoy this read and wish that our lives had a little more time to live as vividly as the Manny.
