Far more application than medicine

This is a great book to help you understand your doctor's mindset. It would be a great companion to "How Doctors Think," by Jerome Groopmann. Beyond that, it is a good description of two mindsets that we all use. It will help you to understand them and to choose when each is applicable. We too often as parents try to be mechanics, when the gardener approach is more appropriate.
