The Merciless is chilling. Think Mean Girls meets The Exorcist.--MTV.com Danielle Vega delivers blood-curdling suspense and terror on every page of this thrilling debut novel. Fans of Asylum by Madeleine Rouxand Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children will devour this terrifying series. Brooklyn Stevens sits in a pool of her own blood, tied up and gagged. No one outside of these dank basement walls knows she's here. No one can hear her scream. Sofia Flores knows she shouldn't have gotten involved. When she befriended Riley, Grace, and Alexis on her first day at school, she admired them, with their perfect hair and their good-girl ways. They said they wanted to save Brooklyn. They wanted to help her. Sofia didn't realize they believed Brooklyn was possessed. Now, Riley and the girls are performing an exorcism on Brooklyn--but their idea of an exorcism is closer to torture than salvation. All Sofia wants is to get out of this house. But there is no way out. Sofia can't go against the other girls...unless she wants to be next. By the shockingly twisted end, readers will be faced with the most haunting question of all: Is there evil in all of us? "Pretty Little Liars fans, get a sneak peek at your new favorite book The Merciless...a nail biting thriller."--Seventeen Magazine
I loved this book. I read Survive at night by Danielle Vega and hated it. However, this one was good. It has some twist. Some moments that will make you cringe.
Merciless I II III IV

My mother-in-law picked this book up at a thrift store. She gave it to me to read. I had no idea what it was even about. I began reading it, turns out I really enjoy horror/vampire stories. I would not have picked it up myself, but I am so glad she did. I bought the entire series and now I am looking for more of the same...
Good read!

If you’re into messed up stuff this is a good book to pick up!
Enjoyed it! But maybe too graphic for the YA genre?

I've heard this book compared to the movie Mean Girls almost every single time I read about it. I can honestly say that it, to me, it's only similar in that there are girls and there is beef. That's it. If that on it's own makes it like Mean Girls, then that's not a lot to compare to.
That being said, these girls are in high school, so yes, they make some pretty dumb decisions at times and their behaviors can be predicted at times. I didnt find myself becoming extremely attached to any one particular character in this book, though. Other than the main character Sofia, the other 3 main girls of the story are pretty hollow as far as personality and characteristics. So if you're someone who NEEDS that really fleshed out character development to properly enjoy a book, maybe pass this up.
The writing is easy to read, literally anyone could read this and finish it within a day or two. Though the characters can be a bit predictable at times, the story had me doing double takes quite often.
As a warning, the book is VERY GRAPHIC. If you are squeamish at all, you may want to pass on this book, however the graphic parts were some of my favorite. I'd like to think I'm pretty calm and cool when reading about some gorey details but some nasty parts in this book actually made me shudder in disgust.
***Big trigger warnings regarding to animal killing, torture, gore, murder, suicide and a couple more that I'm sure I'm missing.
I finished this book in just under a day and I did quite enjoy it. I expected to go into this, rate it about a 2/5 and forget about it based on what I heard about it before (mostly referring to the comparisons to Mean Girls) but I'm actually surprised with how much I liked it. Because of this, I'll be picking up Merciless II!
Too YA For Me

I’m not afraid to read young adult novels, but this book felt like it was almost geared to a middle school audience. This was not scary though there were one or two graphic scenes that gave me the chills. Overall, this felt very young, very contrived and I will not be reading this author again.
Decent at Best

This book was okay, and an easy read, hence the two stars. Other then that I would not reccomend as I found myself getting more annoyed then anything. Do you ever find yourself screaming at the TV while watching a cheesy horror movie, trying to make the main character make better choices? That is this book in a nutshell. Sofia makes decisions that make no sense and overall the book itself made barely any sense. It wasn't the worse but it's far from the best.
The Merciless Exceeded my Expectations

It was well written and easy to get into the story. In some parts I felt as though I were the main character, and without fail those parts ended up being terrifyingly real to me, which is a huge part of why I bought this book. Lately I've been craving darker Young Adult books, and this certainly is darker than most. Definitely recommending it to all of my friends.

Definitely a great young adult book. Has a twist of the craft & mean girls. Once I started I couldn't put the book down.
