Two years after his death and a year before the 50th anniversary of the end of the Spanish Civil War, Landis's revision of his earlier work, The Abraham Lincoln Brigade (1967), appears. Landis basically shortened (from 677 pages) and streamlined the contents of the first book, which draws on personal reminiscences and writings of Loyalist veterans as well as the formal archives of both sides. Improvement in readability over the earlier edition must be balanced against the omission of sometimes poignant first-hand reports. Recommended for academic and larger public libraries that do not have Landis's first edition or are willing to pay for the updated bibliography.
