Wake up and do something Kaden Norris's life is shattered when his older brother -- his best friend and hero -- is killed in Iraq. All Kaden has left of Kenny is a letter, urging him to break away from his sheltered life and to go to San Francisco to visit his cousin, James. Kaden is blown away, as James introduces him to a life filled with drugs, sex, and apathy. He goes from extreme high to extreme low, having no idea what to expect. And when Kaden uncovers secrets about his family that have been kept from him for years, his entire world comes crashing down. This may not be the trip his brother had envisioned for him, but it's one Kaden will never forget.

After reading Myers' first book Exit Here. I wasn't sure what to expect. Exit Here was his first novel, so I didn't know if he would go a completeley different direction, or stick to what worked for him the first time. After finishing The Mission there was a certain reminder that it was the same author, but I actually enjoyed the way he wrote this book even more than his first. The most enjoyable part about the book was getting Kaden's perspective on the people of San Francisco and the city itself as he treaded water trying to make it through a week with his cousin. Not only does his cousin bring an interesting personality to the book, so does his cousin's girlfriend Caralie, and everyone from "The Whip Pad" Myers' maintains his passion for describing his surroundings, people, and music; and you definitely get a feel from the author that he is also familiar with San Francisco and the different cultures that it presents. There is no question that the book is well worth the $9.99.
