Two of America's favorite mommies bring their edgy, hysterically funny and right-on-target look at life in the sac. Cul-de-sac, that is. Caryl Kristensen and Marilyn Kentz, two suburbanites who developed a stand-up routine that led to an ABC sitcom and later a talk show, will have readers saying to themselves, "It feels so good to know I'm not alone," and perhaps, "Thank God that wasn't my kid." Meeting first as neighbors in a Petaluma cul-de-sac,"The Mommies" juggled babies, Little League, Halloween, teenagers and the secret, unwritten rules of suburban behavior. From their early dreams of glamorous bohemianism to the dirty reality of dirty diapers and carpools, motherhood may have brought its share of sacrifice, but it also sparked real friendships and strong support from the rest of the mothers out there. Now everybody's favorite neighbors, the Mommies tell it like you're over for morning coffee. Caryl and Marilyn on: Teenagers: Living with teenagers is like watching Jeopardy every night; after a while you start thinking, "Maybe I am stupid." Kids in general: There are two kinds of kids: those who grow up and become lawyers and those who need them. I have both kinds. Body Image: Don't you think cellulite looks a little better tan? Childbirth: The epidural was better than the sex that got me there. Fashion: The rule is this -- if you're wearing something that's hurting you, chances are it's hurting someone else. The Motherload, like the best of Erma Bombeck, is a savvy, savagely amusing book that speaks to the tired parent in all of us.
These funny, irreverent women help other mothers to find the humor in the mundane trials and tribulations of raising children. Whenever you start thinking you're not the perfect mother you wanted to be or that your kids aren't the perfect kids you wanted them to be, read another chapter of this book. Caryl and Marilyn will make you laugh and make you feel better about yourself and your family. Even if your life is perfect, read the book anyway. It will still make you laugh.

An inspiration to women of all ages

I am a 19 year old college student from upstate New York, and I hopefully have a few more years until I have a husband and a family, but I just wanted you to know that I enjoyed The Mother Load from cover to cover. The book caught my eye because I loved your television series and your talk show. It was so funny that I couldn't put it down! I think it's great that the two of you were willing to share personal stories to inspire other women. I just wanted to let you know that it's not only wives and mothers who read your book. I think your book is an inspiration for women of all ages. I'm looking forward to the next one! Thank you very much.
Could not stop laughing!

Three friends; seven kids (girls-4,5,6 & 9...boys-4,5 & 8) were at a backyard pool. One friend starts reading "The Mother Load" to pass the time. She could not stop laughing out loud. In order to be in on the humor we made her read out loud. We had such a good time. Each of us took turns reading aloud while the kids swam. When we would take a break we'd share our own stories. We have never had so much fun and related to most of your tales. The "nirvana mommie" was hilarious. We planned to pass the book around, but it's so much more fun to read it aloud with your best friends. We are looking forward to seeing what you are up to next.

These women have an incredibly funny and fun view on parenting and relationships in today's world. I could not put the book down. I ended up feeling refreshed and even comforted to know that I was not alone in my travails as a mom.
