Foy Rin Jin is a huge, fierce, bright-red dragon who breathes water instead of fire, a disaster for any self-respecting dragon. So he leaves the dragon lair in disgrace to work on his problem in the... This description may be from another edition of this product.
A water spewing dragon is a mind twister for both an adult and a kid. I loved this children's tale and plan on sending it to the kids I know. The illustrations are wonderful. It's the kind of book you can read to a child several times in different voices --put on a show.
It's not JUST for little kids!

I've been passing this book around to "kids" of all ages! Age doesn't seem to matter because Jim Friedman has written a book that appeals to folks who are looking for something light, but with a message that the young kids can "get." The older ones enjoy being reminded of Shel Silverstein's work. With hi-tech madness all around, a water-spouting dragon who turns out to be a hero refreshes and uplifts. As a read-aloud book, it's a nice one to read at bedtime - better to have pleasant dreams. Thanks Jim!
A Great Read It Aloud Book!

Each holiday season I choose a book to read aloud at several of our local public libraries. This year I chose The Mysterious Misadventures of Foy Rin Jin because I found the story both touching and funny--an unusual combination. Children, parents and librarians were all very enthusiastic about this book, and I got a tremendous reception! I loved reading it aloud because of its wonderful use of language. I heartily recommend it.

Jim Friedman has written a book that would appeal to fans of the late Shel Silverstein's work. A quirky fable about a water-spouting dragon that parents won't mind reading again and again. Unlike many books for this age group, there are words, and lots of them, on the pages! I read Foy Rin Jin to my daughter's second grade class, and it got a unanimous thumbs up! Foy Rin Jin would make a great addition to the library of the fire-truck obsessed child on your shopping list.
The Mysterious Adventures of Foy Rin Jin

This is a clever and different story about a very different dragon. It moves along nicely to a surprise ending -- a surprise more in your reaction to the ending than in the ending itself. I think the bottom age rating is too low, however. Instead of 4 it probably should be more like 6. And the top age could be anything from there on up.
