Interest in the National Hockey League is bigger than ever, and so is the NHL Official Guide Record Book. This edition, revised and updated for the 2008-2009 season, features an easy-to-understand expanded format, new statistics, an index of every retired player since 1917, a detailed break-down of all the hot prospects, and information on every current player. With over 600 pages of information, this is the only book you'll need to enjoy an exciting season. You'll learn about historic game-winning goals, team captains and award winners, finally understand the NHL draft, and settle your friends' disagreements over who had the longest winning streak. You will also get all the information you need to follow the leagues newest franchises: the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Minnesota Wild. Researched and compiled by the National Hockey League, this is the one-and-only official reference on hockey, used by sports media throughout the world, and featuring hundreds of brand-new photos.
I bought this without really knowing just what it would be. The best way to describe it would be: A Hockey Fanatic's Dream. My husband's eyes were like saucers the first time he started looking through it. And now he keeps this by the couch when he's watching hockey games and likes to refer to it from time to time. He used to wonder where the analysts got all that data so quickly, but says now he knows. For any hockey fan who likes to know the stats in the game, you can't wrong with this

Only this book and the NHL Rules are permitted to be on the coffee table next to my spot on the couch. A trusted, handy must-have reference for true hockey lovers. And the photo on the front is much better than subsequent editions. Go Wings!

This sits right in front of me, on the coffee table within reach while watching the NHL Center Ice package on DirecTv. You and your buddy start talking about a player, then you look him up...I get one every year. It's fun to leaf through it. I look forward to it's release every summer, and it's a must for any broadcaster who is going to talk about the sport.
