Nancy Stevenson introduces a unique new way of teaching children to read. This phonics method was originally designed for the dyslexic child but works equally well for all beginners and can be taught... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book uses a phonics approach, but in a way that is easier for children to grasp. My son was in 6th grade and all the reading specialists in the district couldn't teach him to even read a 1st grade EZ reader. I went to the library and just by chance picked this book out. After I began using it, he was starting to read within a few days, and by the end of the month, was reading short stories! He now tests at high school level. I know it sounds too good to be true - but it really happened that way. The teachers were confounded- no other word for it. Basically, Ms. Stevenson starts with long vowels instead of short, uses no pictures (which distract), starts from the middle of words instead of the beginning, and many other different techniques that children with difficulties just naturally tap into. They learn to decode. This book has all the actual lessons in it, over a hundred of them and is very simple to use. You just do a lesson a day with some review. It works just as well with children without reading difficulties - my second son used this for reading also. I wish this book was still in print and had better visibility, because I am sure it is the answer for many others.
