When the first edition of this book was published, it was widely admired for its obvious expertise and for the wide range of Beagle-related topics it presented so expertly. Now a new edition updates... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book was recommended to me before we purchased our Beagle. I found the book very informative and helpful. After reading this book, we were more than prepared for our new companion and knew exactly what to expect. I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about purchasing a Beagle or for new owners!
Definately a BEST OF BREED!!!!

This book is wonderfully written, while it is not geared to a beagle owner in the "pet" set of mind. It is a wonderful tool and a must have for breeders, serious enthusiasts, exhibitors, etc.... My only suggestion would be for the pictures to be in color vs. black and white.
This book is definitely Best in Show!

Without a doubt the best book on dogs of any breed, and a must for every Beagler. Comprehensive and authoritative, giving you an expert's view on breeding, grooming, training, showing and loving your Beagle. The only bad thing is that other breed enthusiasts don't have anything like it. But then, they don't have Beagles either.Pay special attention to the section on distinguished pedigrees. It helped me find one of the top beagle breeders in the country and eventually get a great dog from them.
For the beagle aficionado

Lots of information about genetics, breeding, and running packs (perhaps too much for the pet owner, interested mostly in a breed overview), presented by obvious experts. Nice, tight section on the history of the breed. Small section about behavior and temperament (wished there had been more on this--personal preference). Wonderful section on beagle ailments. Impressive presentation of beagles of all types. A scholarly work that should delight the beagle faithful, but may be a heavy go for the casual reader.
A "Must Read" for a future Beagle owner.

I love this book. As a breeder of Beagles I am thrilled that our breed has a book which covers every pertinent topic. The authors knowledge and concern for the welfare of the breed is extremely evident. There is an extensive section on health problems which would enable a prospective owner to make an informed decision on purchasing a puppy. I have bought this book three different times. Each time, a puppy purchaser whom I had shown the book to had decided that they had to have the book and I let them buy it from me. This book is for a Beagle lover who is interested in more than just a cuddly puppy: a person who wants the knowledge to be the best owner possible for his or her new puppy. There is also a great deal of information for those who desire to obedience train, show, hunt or breed their Beagle if their interests progress in those direction. I consider this book a must read for anyone who has a keen interest in Beagles.
