An essential addition to any serious theological library. David Tracy introduces his influential concept of the "classic," as well as his idea of the difference between analogical and other ways of viewing the life of faith. He looks at the culture of pluralism, examining the main differences in the world's?theological doctrines.
I read and reread this book when I first became interested in Philosophy. Kaplan looks at various schools of Philosophy, starting with Pragmatism going through Logical Analysis and Existensialism and provides a clear and highly readable introduction to each area of thought. He also includes sections on Indian Philosophy, Buddhism, Chinese Thought. Kaplan has a real mastery of the ideas and problems of each school of Philosophy he surveys. Picking up recently and rereading certain passages I have been reminded of what an outstanding work it is.
