"Alexandra Benedict has a gift for storytelling." --Cathy Maxwell A rich and sensuous story that carries the reader from the dark and dangerous underworld to the gleaming halls of society, The... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Amy Peel, an orphan who has survived London's rookeries, now dances as Zarsitti, a veiled beauty who enthralls the gentlemen who visit the club where she works. Alone in the world, Amy dances to keep food on the table and make more money for her savings, determined to make her way in the world. Edmund Hawkins, once a notorious pirate, wanders into the cub one night and, upon seeing Zarsitti dance, knows he must make contact with her. Unfortunately the meeting is ill fated. Edmund saves Zarsitti from men intent on kidnapping her for their master, but in the process he loses his memory. Amy takes him home to care for him, but when both their true identities are revealed things take an unexpected turn. Can these two lovers overcome the obstacles that spring up before them and be together, forever? This is my first foray into the world of the Hawkins' brothers, and my first Alexandra Benedict novel. It won't be my last, though, and I'm happy that I selected this book for review. Both Amy and Edmund are strong-willed characters and watching them interact was an interesting journey. At first I was a little disappointed in the forgotten memory device, but as the story unfolded, and the Hawkins brothers came back into the picture, I loved the way Ms. Benedict bundled things together and moved the story along. There were twists I didn't expect to see, and which kept me turning the pages. Now I'm eagerly awaiting William and Quinn's stories and searching the shelves for the original tale. Lovers of historical fiction will enjoy this tale of love, lust and betrayal. The Notorious Scoundrel weaves a spell around its readers, encouraging them to devour every word.
