This is a book for those of us who have tried things over the years but never sat back and pulled all our learning together. The main point of the book is that each of us is unique and knows from experience what works. I love the idea of creating my own plan based on tying together the bits of what worked here and there in the past. Also, creating my own cookbook of favorite recipes I love, too. Not the best selection for those who have not dieted before, except that you could use this approach to stay in a thoughtful, experimental mode--there is usually SOMETHING from every diet/exercise plan we try that works...don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, figure out what works and what doesn't and build on that! Make it your own! I took all his suggestions for diet as just that; the main idea is to stay true to who we are as individuals.

Dangitall, someone just wrote the diet book I've always wanted to write, and he did a darned good job of it. In The Obvious Diet, Ed Victor points out that you are your own best diet designer and he inspires you to give it another shot. In these days of protein-vs.-carbs-vs.-macrobiotics and et cetera, it is refreshing to read this occasionally humorous book. Victor suggests using a food journal to identify your personal weak spots and then has a handful of general diet ideas to put into action. Most entertaining is the chapter on celebrity diet tips, which provides a real look at how individualized every person's eating is. ...
