The Official History of Eureka Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star State of Illinois: Volume One (The Official History of Eureka Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star for the State of Illinois)
The Order of the Eastern Star has been active within the State of Illinois since the late 19th Century. The organization has always been filled with ladies of the highest caliber whose efforts on behalf of the African American community were second to none. No movement for the rights of African American women in the State of Illinois occurred without the contributions of members of the Order of the Eastern Star. As such, the organization can claim that it is a part of the bedrock of the African American community. Volume One celebrates the formation of the Order from its founding fathers through the initial formation of the Afro-American Grand Chapter and her progress through the Silver Anniversary of Eureka Grand Chapter. It provides an understanding of the early expansion tactics of the organization which extended across Illinois and beyond its borders. It also covers the transition of the Grand Chapter from a Royal Order to a Worthy one while also highlighting the accomplishments of the leaders who drove the Grand Chapter to higher heights. It sets a solid stage upon which Volume Two will build.
