To rescue her friend from a loveless marriage, a daring woman dons a disguise and finds herself captivated by a mysterious rake in this "perfect Regency romance " * from award-winning author Anne Gracie. In three years on the marriage market, Grace Merridew has never met a man whose kiss stirred her senses. So she makes plans for a life of adventure instead--to see the moon rise over the pyramids of Egypt and dance amid the marble ruins of Greece. But first she must help a friend in need... Timid Melly Pettifer is being forced to marry Dominic Wolfe, who stands to inherit a huge estate if he weds. The Wolfes have a terrible reputation, and if there's one thing Grace cannot stand, it's a bully. When Melly begs for assistance in escaping her impending nuptials, Grace acts as the plain and mousy chaperone on their visit to the groom-to-be. But when they arrive nothing is as they expect, and Grace is scandalized to find herself being pursued by a big bad Wolfe...
I have read the entire series and enjoyed all of the books. The Merridew sisters were interesting characters with more depth than is found in most romance novels.
I read this book first.

I really enjoyed this book. The only other book I read by Anne Gracie was Tally's Knight and I thought it was OK. But this book I really liked. If this was the worst of the series, then I can't wait to read about the other sisters! I liked that the hero knew who he wanted to be with right from the start. Even having the servants go to Greystoke for instructions. Everyone wanted out of the betrothal except for the girl's father, so I didn't see a problem with the hero and heroine getting together. In fact it was Melly who I found irritating and without backbone.
Great Book!

In 1826 England, a Wolfe has returned to Wolfestone Castle where they have lived for six centuries. His arrival leads to nearby villagers in Lower Wolfestone to speculate whether he is a good or bad one. They pray that the guardian of the valley, the Gray Lady appears because if she does that means the latest Wolfe will be a good one and all will thrive. Three years on the marriage mart enforced Grace Merridew's belief that she is unworthy of love; a theory her late grandfather made her believe almost twenty years ago. She decides to see the world, but before she goes on her tour she had agreed to help her friend, reticent Melly who has thrown up several times ever since she learned her father had arranged a betrothal to Lord Dominic Wolfe when she was a child. Grace dresses up as a plain companion accompanying Melly to meet her fiancé, the big bad Wolfe. Dominic does not want to marry, but his father's will is watertight. If he fails to marry Melly, he loses everything; thus he agreed to a "white" wedding in name only. When the bride's party arrives, Dominic finds himself interested in the termagant companion who rips his skin with her words until he silences her with his kisses. As he falls in love, he knows if he marries for love he loses the family estate; if he does not he loses his soul. The fourth "Perfect" Merridew Regency romance is a terrific historical tale that stars two combatants battling each other and love until both consider surrendering to their hearts' desires. Grace is a wonderful "Knight Errant" while her dragon the big bad Wolfe learns one kiss at a time what love is and soon what a family truly is. Fans will appreciate Anne Gracie's fabulous tale of love's redemption powers. Harriet Klausner
Final installment of Merridew sister series saves the best for last

Grace Merridew has always longed for adventure. Her greastest desire was to travel the world; sail into Venice at dawn or ride a camel in Egypt, only those things would have to wait, that is until she got her timid friend Melly Pettifer out of being forced to marry Dominic Wolfe, Lord D'Acre. Disguised as a maid-companion, Grace sets off with Melly and her father to Wolfestone. When she arrives, its nothing as she expected. The dismal grand castle, devoid of servants, is on its way towards crumbling. The local villagers believe in all sorts of strange folklore. And to top it off, Grace initially mistakes Lord D'Arce for a gypsy. Apparently, its the handsome, tanned, rake-ish gentleman's-with-the-wolf-eyes first visit to his ancestral home as well. Well that's strange! And so are the feelings that Grace has to hide anytime she's around the big bad Wolfe, who decides to make her his delectable prey. A pursuit that will definitely turn into an adventure of a lifetime. This is a wonderful book. My favorite of the Merridew sister series, although it can be read as a stand alone. Dominic is a fantastic hero, a strong minded man out for revenge against his father. He takes no prisoner's and takes what he wants -Alpha male all the way without being cruel or uncaring. He pursues Grace with a passion creating lots of smoldering sexual tension and several very good love scenes. Strong willed Grace, on the other hand, does her best to avoid any romance, he's her friends fiance for goodness sake! But its difficult when Dominic akins his mission to that of a wolf stalking and taking its prey... -and the lady has been warned! Add to that a cast of cooky villagers who believe in a ghostly vision of a Grey Lady riding on a white steed, a lake with magical powers, a set of sister's named (I-kid-you-not) the 'Tickels' or a Turk with a long curled mustache with the manner of a king and ....oh...did I mention the harem? You'll just have to read to find those out. ;) Just a really good book that's different than your average run of the mill regency historical.
