The horse is a creature of action: running, jumping, stopping, turning. To fully appreciate his beauty, you must see him perform-working a cow, jumping a fence, hurtling around a track. In this book, David R. Stoecklein takes you inside the world of performance horses, turning his lens upon the super-athletes of equestrian sport. You will see brilliant competitors from all the major disciplines: reining, cutting, barrel racing, and roping; horseracing, polo, hunter/jumper, three-day eventing, dressage, and driving. Journalist Jennifer Forsberg Meyer shares the thoughts and opinions of top riders, trainers, and breeders.
I am a huge fan of David R. Stoecklein's work, and this book did not disappoint. He does amazing closeups of tack, horses, and the people who love them, in all forms, from Rodeo and Western Work, to English and driving. This is a nice book, filled with amazing photography. The information and writing was well done, and had just enough information to be interesting, without being bogged down with worthless writing just to make it longer.
Enthusiastically highly recommended for horse fanciers

Featuring the incredible photography of David R. Stoecklein, The Performance Horse is a visually stunning tribute to man's equine companions, celebrating horses in racing, sports, rodeos and championships the world over. Insightful captions and commentaries by Jennifer Forsberg Meyer enhances this largely pictorial capturing of the partnership and sometimes rivalry between man and animal. The Performance Horse is enthusiastically highly recommended for horse fanciers, and would make an "Memorial Fund" acquisition choice for academic or community libraries.
