The Permanent Stain in the Kirkland Lunatic Asylum is the story of Margaret Schilling re-imagined. Olivia Garner and her family recently move into a home adjacent to the abandoned Lunatic Asylum. She is haunted by the sight of Margaret Shilling in the attic window of the asylum on the very first night in her new home. Margaret's ghost writes two three digit numbers on the window separated by a wavy line. Along with her twelve year old sister Sofia and the son of the Asylum caretaker named Logan they try and solve the mystery of Maggie Schilling's death. Was it murder? Why are the grave markers in the enormous asylum cemetery all numbered without no names? What is in the grave stone labeled Specimen? The three teens are desperate to solve Maggie's death and stir up enemies both living and dead.
