Incorporating the most up-to-date literature in psychology, communication, sociology, and psychoanalysis, this book provides an exhaustive synthesis of theoretical, empirical, and clinical research on... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The author does an excellent job of exploring the subject of intimacy: from an educational (and fascinating) discussion of how it may be defined), to a stage-by-stage description of its role at various points of the life cycle, to ideas for further research. Throughout the text are thorough references to the literature supporting every idea presented - a very scholarly work. She avoids the pitfall of many authors in psychology of one-dimensionally limiting their presentation based on allegiance to a particular 'school' of psychology/therapy. The main drawback is that at this point (2010) the book is 15 years old. A thorough updating would add to its value. Despite this, I would recommend it to anyone interested in the field of intimacy (which should be everyone!).
