Five more stories about the irrepressible Quigleys (and including a surprise guest appearance from the next-door neighbor's cat, Fatbrain). Will makes a huge effort to get on with the sullen Robinson Potts, an unwelcome visitor on the family's weekend away. Lucy desperately hopes that her birthday party will occur without mishap even though Dad is promising to make it an event to remember. And Mum gets stuck on the roof-with Fatbrain. These hilarous stories about ordinary family life are perfect for reading aloud as well as for newly independent readers to read by themselves.
I bought all the 4 Quigley's books, on a recommendation I read by the author of the "Penderwicks" a couple of years ago. My kids (aged 8, 8 and 12) have read all four books multiple times. They revel in the (mis)adventures of the Quigley Dad. Some of the passages leave them rolling in laughter. There's something unique about the Quigley stories that makes the kids go back and re-read them several times. Highly recommended for ages 7 thru 12. Hope Simon writes a few more Quigleys books.
