The book was in great condition. Reader's Digest did a great job condensing the Bible without losing content or meaning. It's much easier to understand than the King James version, yet isn't modern in language like some translations. It is so easy to understand that it becomes apparent, as never before, that God started a just a parochial God of the Jews. There were other gods of other nationalities, even in the words of God. It also shows God as a very insecure and vengeful God not shy about killing off a few thousand Jews for indiscretions. Moses has to talk him out of doing this on two or three occasions. And, it is clear that the commandment, "Thou shalt not kill," applies only to your fellow Jews. God himself orders Moses and others that follow him to kill off various other non-Jewish tribes and take their cities and property, killing them to the last man, woman and child. If you want to see God in the raw, this is the Bible for you. It is a beautiful book, physically at least.
