I really enjoyed this. The heroine is reckless, the hero has the capacity to be cruel, but they both learn and evolve as the story develops. I enjoyed the fact that they made their own problems to some extent and then sorted them out for themselves, and although there were explanations for their failings, there weren't too many excuses: the characters took responsibility for their own actions. There were also original, albeit implausible touches. I'm not entirely convinced by the heroine's riding skills, but the author has clearly researched into the background of cossak riding, and the feel of the settings seems very solid. Overall, an original and slightly different spin on the traditional regency novel.
