Ranger Security expert Tanner Crawford is lethally sexy. With his hair-trigger temper, smart-ass mouth and lady-charmer ways, he's no stranger to trouble. And it turns out that trouble's no stranger to him, either. Because Mia Hawthorne, the only woman who ever rocked his world, just tumbled back into his life. As a client he must protect Ah, hell. Anybody but her... When Mia sees Tanner, her carefully ordered world screeches to a halt. It starts right up again though-- in his bed Sex with Tanner is still incredible. But he's a bad boy destined to break her heart once more... and she craves stable and predictable. Doesn't she? Well, maybe. But first, she's going to find out exactly what she's been missing. And this time, she'll be the one to walk away. If she can...
"The only penis Tanner Crawford was accustomed to protecting was his own" - With a first line like that, you know the book is going to be good... I picked this up on impulse at the drugstore. Little did I know what I was setting myself up for. It's been 2 weeks, and I have now read all of the Ranger Security related titles, and the vast majority of the rest of Ms. Nelson's backlist. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors. The Renegade is a great example of why this is so. Tanner and Mia meet up a decade afer their college affair ends. The sparks quickly ignite into a blaze. They both have a lot riding on the transport of an artifact, career wise. These two have chemistry that burns up the pages. Mia is a strong character, focused on her career. Seeing Tanner again throws her, but she is determined to not let him hurt her again. Tanner feels bad for the way their college affair ended, but doesn't feel like he is in a place for anything permanent to develop. He is dealing with his own emotional issues after leaving the Army. He feels like this new job at Ranger Securities is his last option, and he doesn't want anything to go wrong. Tanner's fear of failure in his new career is palpable. Ms. Nelson's writing flows beautifully. There are no jarring "huh?" moments in which the characters act completely out of ...well, character. The hero and heroine are strong apart, but better together. There are laugh out loud funny moments, and scenes that will bring tears. I cannot say enough how much I enjoy this author's voice, and look forward to her future releases.
Very enjoyable read

Great to see the guys back from Ranger Security. Tanner Crawford is lethally sexy. with a hair-trigger temper, smart-ass mouth and lady-charmer ways and Mia is no push-over. The banter between the two was great. Enjoyed the book a lot.
