Caleb and Kane, two Civil War survivors ride west seeking work and adventure. In Texas, they become cowhands and meet a gunman named Luther Tate who befriends them. When the other cowhands learn Kane and Caleb were Yanks, trouble follows them. Luther stands up with Kane and Caleb and after a trail drive to Kansas they ride to Montana to start their own ranch. Luther's past catches up with him when they meet a young woman running from some bad men that Luther once rode with. Caleb becomes a cowboy. Kane fights the demons in his head as he seeks his dream of having a horse ranch.Luther learns about trust and real friendship.
