this book is a wonderful and reader-friendly guide to the history of the english language. it is written to be read cover to cover, or as a quick reference guide. i would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the english language or words in general. the author's insightful and witty comments follow nearly every entry, and add a personality to the book that is sorely lacking in most conventional reference books.
