Book Overview

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - In "Grisham's most addictive courtroom thriller" (The Seattle Times), justice is fighting for its life--and the jury is caught in the crossfire of greed and corruption.

They are at the center of a multimillion-dollar legal hurricane: twelve men and women who have been investigated, watched, manipulated, and harassed by high-priced lawyers and consultants who will stop at nothing to secure a verdict. Now the jury must make a decision in the most explosive civil trial of the century, a precedent-setting lawsuit against a giant tobacco company. But only a handful of people know the truth: that this jury has a leader, and the verdict belongs to him.

He is known only as Juror #2. But he has a name, a past, and he has planned his every move with the help of a beautiful woman on the outside. Now, while a corporate empire hangs in the balance, while a grieving family waits, and while lawyers are plunged into a battle for their careers, the truth about Juror #2 is about to explode.

Smart and satisfying

The whole time you will be smirking along with the actions of the main character. You won’t know why he’s doing what he does, but it’s so fun to try and figure it out. Full of twists and turns.

Delightful Work

This is one of my favorite Grisham books. I purchased it because I had seen the movie with the same title. Much to my surprise, the product at the trial is different. Other than that, the book and movie work together. I enjoyed the verbiage and how the jurors are "worked" to reach the correct outcome. Highly recommend this as a book that is interesting but doesn't require a lot of deep thought.

Very good yarn

Long book, kept my interest thru all but 1 small part. Translated from English into Spanish, so the Spanish is easy (for those reading books to learn the language).

Very good read

As a first time reader of any John Grisham work, I must say that I was impressed, yet dissapointed; let me explain. This book was very easy to follow, the characters were developed well, I finished this book in three days (during the hustle and bustle of Christmas) because the plot building was so wonderful. One night during reading, I had to MAKE myself go to sleep after being so engrossed in the book, found that it was 3:30 in the morning! Get ready to drop everything and read! The only reason why I give this book four instead of five stars was that I believe that Mr. Grisham should have been a little more creative with the ending. While I was reading, my predictions of the ending were more creative than the actual ending, which is where my dissapointment lies. This book however, is well worth the time it takes to read.

not the best but not bad

This one's good but certainly not his best book. Anyway, a widow is suing a tobacco company for millions of dollars two years after her husband dies of lung cancer. A miserly jury picker by the name of Rankin Fitch picks his jury and the case is ready to begin. Everything is going well until they get mysterious calls from a Marlee who tells them predictions of the next day like the jury will perform the pledge of allegience. These predictions come true leaving Fitch to wonder if there is a person on the inside. There indeed is and his name is Nicholas Easter or is it? His past is a mystery and soon the jury follows his lead. Then strange things start happening. The jury goes on strike and one man claims he's being followed. Could this be Fitch?

My First Grisham...And What a Read!

This was my first Grisham. I am an avid reader, but I usually gravitate toward nonfiction (particularly history and politics). However, while housesitting for friends the other week, I picked up a copy of this book. In short, I really enjoyed it. Here are three reasons:1. Grisham's talent for clarity is impressive. Fine detail throughout, as well as believable dialogue, kept the story moving and relatively easy to follow. This was a challenge, too, considering the intricate storyline in The Runaway Jury. 2. This topic was fascinating. Anyone with an interest in jury deliberations will like the unique twists and turns in the story. The characters are unique, each one mysterious enough to get the reader thinking and speculating.3. Finally, I really admire the ending. Of course, I don't want to commit the reviewer's sin of giving anything away, so enough said!Sure, there are some weaknesses, as with any book. Some minor storylines disappear, while some do not push the plot along. There are a few passages that dragged a little. But all in all, a great read. I can't compare this to Grisham's other works, but will say that I am now a fan.

Grisham at his best

This book is on of the best I have ever read and it is contending as the best. I counldn't put it down. I read the last 300 pages in one night. It was the best law thriller I have ever read in my life. It is about a juror who knows the law and tries to sway the jury. I am not going to get into details but a widow is suing a tobacco company because her husband got addicted and died of lung cancer. I loved it and could not put it down. Do not start it unless you have a lot of time to read.

The Runaway Jury in From The Firm to The Exchange
From The Firm to The Exchange
Published by William Shelton • October 10, 2023
The first and last time I devoured a book cover to cover in one sitting was The Firm. The pace of the book, the nail-biting drama, the lush description of the setting, the satisfactory, wholly unexpected denouement of the story combined to make me appreciate a book as never before. Soon we will be graced with another opportunity to revisit the world of Mitch McDeere in the new novel by Grisham, The Exchange. I almost feel like I am back in High School again.
