More of the same, but a bit less bleak

I have long been a fan of the RCN series, but I will admit that after the first few installments the books developed a rather repetitive sameness. The Sea without a Shore is a a bit different than the preceding several novels in that it has more positive tone. You also see a bit of welcome character development in Adele and Tovera, both becoming a bit more cheerful and human than their previous decidedly bleak portrayal. There is also some tension when Daniel and Adele take on assignments that give them conflicting objectives. I found this more enjoyable than the last few installments of the series and look forward to the next book.
