This hip and thrifty guide by the hosts of The Shopping Bags, seen on Canada's W Network, will teach shoppers how to recognize deceptive marketing tactics and shop wisely for fashion, food, home, and entertainment.
It's entertaining but disturbing that the American counterparts to The Shopping Bags, Helen Buttigieg, Ayse Hogan and Gail Vaz-Oxlade are so irresponsibly pro-spending. Even the declutter shows involve shopping. The Canadian hosts seem less plastic and better spoken. The only American host with responsible advice in my recent memory is the real estate consultant Kirsten Kemp from Property Ladder who regularly discourages real estate flippers (remember them?) from installing too fancy renovations that will not increase the sale price of the property and really seem to be more about the vanity of the flipper. The Shopping Bags are worth attending to because not only do they not always pick the most expensive option but they also give good reasons and share research on why fancier options are a bad idea. For a media product, they ar e actually educational.

At first glace, I thought this book was going to be about fashion, like the zillions of others on the shelf. But it contains lots of helpful information about buying all kinds of products. I especially liked the food section and the everyday items section. Definitely recommend it as it has lots of little known facts. I understand these ladies have a show and I'm going to be checking my TV listings to find it!
Very Helpful

These two ladies always have helpful tips and they are the most dedicated, hard-working duo on television! This book is an enjoyable read, packed with useful information on everything they have reviewed on their five years on air. They are always compelling as hosts and professional writers (they have written for In Style Magazine, a publication that would not accept hacks!) Yes, this compendium of knowledge will serve as a reference book for experts and neophytes alike - if nothing else, great cocktail party material!
