When Gracie's semi-famous husband unceremoniously dumps her by cell phone, she soon finds refuge with all the wrong people, including a mysterious hunk who saves her from drowning, and her... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I loved this book, couldn't put it down. For someone to have been discarded the way she was and then to fall for someone she didn't really know. She was willing to give everything up for the love of this man and then to have things turn out the way they did in the end! I really loved the other characters that were her friends - real friends who stood by her through it all. I can't wait to watch this on tv now.
Is that what it's like really?

Reading the other reviewers, I'm wondering if we all read the same book. Gracie Peters Pollock is a starter wife, which is a wifely prequel to the trophy wife with which we are all more familiar. Her hubby Kenny (don't we all know a Kenny even if we've never set foot on Rodeo Drive?) is following his game plan and divorce is the next step. Gracie, who has become pretty plastic during her marriage, now lets herself return to the natural person she once was and attracts and is attracted to the homeless by choice Sam Knight, scion of a wealthy OLD California family. This is a love-among-the-ruins story for those in mid-life who are looking back and wondering how they got there. If I say it is a coming-of-age for the mid-lifers, maybe you will know what I mean. Always keeping in mind that it is fiction, I have to say it helped me understand the Hollywood scene a lot better and in an entertaining way. I guffawed a lot. The satire is precious in a romantic fiction world of steamy body parts and impossible anatomical positions. The Starter Wife has, I believe, something for most every female reader and I plan to look for the other Grazer books. I like thinking fiction and I didn't have to skip from page to page looking for all the good parts. In the end, Gracie finds herself again and Sam does as well, and 3-year old Jaden benefits from down-to-earth parents.

I really enjoyed this book. It is a great story for any woman over 30. It was funny and sexy. I would recommend this for a vacation read if you want something light but great
Exactly What I Wanted...

I bought this book because I want just that...reading material. (And because I saw the commercial for the mini-series and I love Debra Messing) I was a bit daunted by this book when I first got it because it looked large, but it's an easy read and it's hard to put down. I love all the characters. Grazer is a good author because she makes relationships and characters seem very real. I specifically enjoy Gracie's conversations with Jaden. Also, the fact that it's about a state that I'm not even near doesn't bother me a bit. The culture is nothing like what I've seen, but how many readers are actual "Wife Ofs?" Every reader is in the same boat culture-wise, but Grazer does a great job of describing things in a way that you can visually see what the joke is.
