What impresses me, as an expatriate Brit, is that this story is fairly told. The British weren't unmitigatingly evil. The war started largely from politics that continued into violence. The officers in question on both sides are portrayed accurately, as cool, panicky, competent or foolish as they were, with documentation from named sources. Despite that, it's written in a style beginning readers will find interesting without being too tough.
