Julafton, or Christmas Eve, the 24th of December, is when Swedish Christmas is primarily observed. A Christmas brunch of some form traditionally kicks off the day. Then, a lot of people watch "Kalle" or Disney's Christmas at 3 o'clock (from Kalle Anka, meaning Donald Duck). So did we, but this time we served champagne and Skagen mix on Finnish rye crisps instead of gl?gg (mulled wine) and gingerbread cookies.It's time for the main event, which of course is the traditional Swedish julbord, after "Kalle" and exchanging Christmas gifts (literally Christmas table). A buffet (smorgasbord) of diverse Swedish Christmas delicacies is known as a julbord. Along with a gravlax salmon dish, meatballs, miniature "prince" sausages, cream sauce, creamed kale, red cabbage, Jansson's temptation, pickled herring, potato salad, and a fruit salad, we also provided.
