A master story-teller, he brings to life leaders in every field he touched, as well as many colorful figures - rabbis, psychoanalysts, doctors, bankers and musicians. Born in 1934 in Jerusalem and raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan under the shadow of WWII and the Cold War, Sherman spoke six languages and early on acquired the ability to adapt, chameleon-like, to his surroundings, mastering the arts of discretion and penetrating observation. In reading his life, which spans the second half of the 20th century, we get a picture of the history of that time in American and European culture.
