About the Author:I started teaching around 23 years old. After a few years I began to feel the symptoms of teacher burnout. I would become sick, lethargic and aggravated more and more easily. My attitude towards the world of education was to burn it down and start over. If friends and family members told me they wanted to get into teaching I warned them not to.Around the same time I was looking for a way out of education, some of my closest friends and family members were dealing with addiction issues. I wanted to learn what I could about addiction so I started attending Al-Anon sessions. Al-Anon is a twelve step program designed for people who are friends or family members of those with addiction issues. Though I learned a lot about how to deal with addiction, I saw many lessons I could apply in the classroom. Quite frankly, the program reignited my passion for teaching. I can't imagine being in any other field now and I thank all who guided me and God for that blessing.I wrote this book to reach out to other educators who are suffering like I was. It is my hope that this book starts honest conversations about the state of our teachers. If our education system is to ever improve, we must start taking care of ourselves first. That is the focus of this book, the individual educator.
