Ronald Russell has provided a large and valuable service for his readers by writing this book. For many years, I have been interested in the subjects covered; distant healing, out of body, near death and transcendental experiences, remote viewing, channeling, etc. Russell examines each of these areas in turn and presents historical information, research and insights in a well written and easily understood manner. He quotes liberally from the original researchers, experiencers, teachers and authors then goes on to add his own clear, concise observations and conclusions -- often with wit and humor. I particularly liked his telling of the story of a little boy, recently arrived from India, who was asked by his British school teacher to write an essay about what animal he would prefer as a pet. He chose a cat and wrote, "The cat is a square animal with four legs, one at each corner. It also has nine lives, but it doesn't use these in Europe because of Christianity." I became so excited by the presentation that about three quarters of the way through the book, I jumped ahead to the last few pages. I couldn't wait to see how Russell would manage to bring together the limitations of mind, matter, space and time with the seemingly unbounded potential of human consciousness. I don't want to spoil anyone's pleasure by giving away my discovery beyond reporting that, for this vast enquiring soul, the author succeeded with a very credible and creditable result.
