Charles Maclean's horror classic is finally back in print Friday, rush hour. Martin Gregory just manages to catch the 4:48 train. Tomorrow is his wife's birthday and he plans to devote the weekend to her and their beloved dogs. But when he rises in the morning, Martin does something so horrific, so inexplicable, and so out of character that his only option is to run. A lost horror classic back in print at last, The Watcher chronicles Martin as his quest for understanding plunges him through shifting realities and twisted corridors of time, and into the deepest recesses of the human mind. "The number one horror novel of all time " --The Guardian (London)"An extraordinary book, unlike anything else I've read." --Charlie Higson, author of The Dead "I'm something of an insomniac. I read The Watcher and stopped sleeping altogether." --Paul Newman "If you are easily upset...stop right here." --The New York Times
Captivating book which stayed with both me and my sister. And now I've found it again (my sister and I speak about it every so often). I see that there are a few other lovers of this book. I can't wait to give her another copy and I bought one for myself. I think I will check out "Silence." I've lost track of this author until now.
Best novel ever written

I was given this book in the 80's for consideration as a movie. I was astounded and wanted to do it but my partners did not think it could easily translate to film. I am in love with it and this writer --everyone should read it and put this on their list of lifetime must reads. I still think it would be a great movie and would love to write it to screen--Lawrence Bender where are you?

I just finished to read "The Watcher" for the fourth time and I'm still enchanted by the prose of Charles Maclean.Even after four times, I keep on finding new clues, new diabolic plots. One of the best novel I've read

I read this book in 1985 and again in about 1992. It is one of the best, perhaps even the best, book I've ever read -and I read about 60 novels a year. I've just ordered Charles McLeans new book, Silence, and look forward to reading it but it will be hard to be as imaginative, thrilling and provoking as The Watcher
