Based on an abandoned draft for THE VANISHER by Lester Dent, Murray crafted those fragments into a unified, full-length novel that also incorporated bits and pieces by Dent that had been edited out of the original magazine stories. One example is the introduction of the Flea Run (that pneumatic car that provides a secret means of travel between the 86th floor and the Hidalgo Trading Company warehouse), which had been blue-pencilled from MYSTERY UNDER THE SEA.
