There's a lot Jean hasn't said over the years about the crime her husband was suspected of committing. She was too busy being the perfect wife, standing by her man while living with the accusing glares and the anonymous harassment. Now her husband is dead, and there's no reason to stay quiet. There are people who want to hear her story. They want to know what it was like living with that man. She can tell them that there were secrets. There always are in a marriage. The truth--that's all anyone wants. But the one lesson Jean has learned in the last few years is that she can make people believe anything... Kept waiting for something, anything to happen. I only finished it by skipping through a bunch of the unnecessary stuff that actually took up most of the book. I just wanted to know the truth and it didn’t come until the very end. Not happy with this book.

At times this book was a bit slow, but it leaves you wanting to know the secrets hidden within the “grieving” widow. It makes you question her very motives for every action she had or has taken throughout the book, weaving a web of her story. Fiona Barton is an expert at weaving characters relationships together book to book. While they are a part of what I would call a series you can read them out of order and never feel like you are missing anything. I have read 2 other of her books and was not disappointed in the order in which I read them as she entwined the characters together in each of her books so you feel you know them.
