This is a work of historical fiction, depicting the life of trapper in the early 1800's. His name is Jeremiah Warner, and the story finds him in his third year as a trapper of beaver. His story was previously introduced in a novel entitled "The Windrider". He is part of fast developing frontier industry called the fur trade. Jeremiah's enemies fear him and have given him the title of the Wolf Man Warrior for his skills in conflict and combat. The adventures of this young man eventually ally him with the Blackfoot Indian Tribe. This naturally pits him against their enemies the Pawnee Tribe. His story is part of the legends and lore of similar characters on the frontier: Joe Walker, Jim Bridger and Kit Carson. Like these men, Jeremiah changes with the times, becoming a Mountain Man in response to the Manifest Destiny of a young America stretching to find its identity.
