One in three women will have had a hysterectomy by the time they reach 65. The authors of this guide both went through the experience and were dismayed at the limited information available to them.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I found this book to be an easily read straight forward book about hysterectomy. It starts out with a basic biology lesson on the female anatomy which some people may not need but others will. It is laid out in a way that it can be either read from front to back or you can look at the sections that apply to your case. I am facing a hysterectomy in 9 days and this book has helped me to make several decisions as well as helping to come up with questions I didn't even know I needed the answers for regarding life both before and after surgery. If you are looking for alternatives this is not the book for you. If you are looking for answers about the fine points of hysterectomy and life after hysterectomy this is a wonderful resource. It has helped to ease a lot of the anxiety that I have been experiencing purely by filling in the spaces in my knowledge of hysterectomy. It even covers sex after hysterectomy! A hard topic to find in any book!

When I was told I needed a hysterectomy, I hit the bookstores looking for information. Most books I found kept stressing that hysterectomy is a choice. Maybe it's a choice for some, but it wasn't for me. With that in mind, I was happy to find this book. My husband and I had questions after I left my doctor's office and this book provided answers.
"All I need to know about Hysterectomy"

Since one in four women lose their uterus due to hysterectomy, I have many friends who have had this surgery. Unfortunately some of them were needlessly frightened just anticipating the procedure. After reading "The Woman's Guide to Hysterectomy," I now know what to give the next friend who tells me she thinks she may need a hysterectomy. I found this book so reassuring and helpful. What a relief to learn that sexuality is not impaired following hysterectomy. Common tests, such as the Pap smear, are explained simply yet informatively. I also know that a Pap Smear is a test I'll keep having even though I'm past menopause. I learned so much from this book that is helpful for all women whether or not they are candidates for hysterectomy.
A wise guide to decisions regarding hysterectomy

I found the book extermely balanced, nuanced and sensitive, in presenting varying points of view regarding issues of hysterectomy, hormone replacement, sex after surgery, etc. Relevant to both illness and healthy gynecological maintenance, not only for women facing surgery. Friend to whom I sent this book said it was the major source she used in decision making. Highly recommended.
An excellent resource for women facing this procedure.

As soon as my hysterectomy surgery was scheduled, I ordered several books dealing with the procedure. I thought that "The Woman's Guide to Hysterectomy" was by far the most comprehensive. The authors (both of whom have had hysterectomies) covered all the bases, including ones I hadn't even thought to ask about. I actually felt rather well-informed, and this has helped my recovery (which is going very smoothly!) I highly recommend it
