Fascinating

The authors dramatically tell two compelling stories of racism. The first is that of the murderers who killed their victims simply because they were white. The second is the racism of the early 1970's San Francisco Police Department, which discriminated against these detectives who were 24/7 trying to prevent whites from being murdered -- because the detectives happened to be black. It's a fascinating snapshot of an awful, difficult time in our nation's history, and I recommend it.

Take the time and read this one. The book is interesting, carefully researched, filled with references to the era. Although I found the overabundance of details confusing at times, the story held my attention and provided a ton of new information. Would recommend for any student of history and political science.
worth reading

I started reading the book because it was assigned. I finished it because I liked it and it taught me a thing or two. White male, college educated, still know that discrimination against African Americans and people of other races is no myth. And these "reviews" are a testament to that. Now feel free and leave any negative comments you may have. They won't change the fact that this book is worth reading.
Powerful and Thoughtful

As someone who just finished this book, I'm surprised at the "objectivity" some of these reviewers are talking about and wonder just what their real agenda may be. People may not like the new material this book's uncovered about the Zebra murders or the fact that it's told from an African-American perspective, but it's intriguing, well written, well documented, and - for my money - convincing.
