To read any book by Michael Ramsey is to be transported into a happy and orderly universe; rather, to be reminded that there is a God who guides us to glory. This collection of readings, culled from several of the bishop-theologian's books, will appeal to Anglicans and other Christians who value the catholic tradition. Ramsey's formidable learning is in evidence (with allusions to Karl Barth, Baron von Huegel, and Ramsey's predecessor but one in the see of Canterbury, William Temple); there are also moments of pellucid simplicity when the Scriptures are opened to us. Traditionalists will find in Archbishop Ramsey a sure guide, a believer in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Progressives will see a noble and generous spirit, attentive to historical criticism and his contemporaneous theologians. TO BELIEVE IS TO PRAY is ably edited by Dr James Griffiss. The book is not always easy reading, but one can instantly see that Michael Ramsey was, and through his books still is, a giver of gladsome light.
