This book describes the life of Joseph Clarke, an Ulsterman from Newbliss, County Monaghan, Ireland. In June 1914 he arrived in Canada with his father William to farm, however returned within a year as World War One began to enlist in the Royal Irish Fusiliers of the Ulster Division of the British Army. He saw service in the Dublin Rebellion of Easter, 1916 and then on the Front in WWI in France. After the war he married and moved to Canada. A member of the Orange Lodge which he joined as a young man he transferred his membership to Toronto and remained a member his entire life. Trained as an auto mechanic in Monaghan, Ireland after the war he continued in this occupation in Toronto and later in Englehart, Ontario where he owned a vehicle dealership and garage. He was also active in local affairs and served on Englehart Council and as Mayor. Later in life he was also a member of the Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge. The book as well includes a listing of 115 men from County Monaghan who were killed or wounded in action in World War I.
