Book Overview

Betty Markowitz and Richie Kovacs fell in love as teenagers in Budapest amid the terror and uncertainty of a world at war. They planned their future together, secure in the belief that their love could survive anything, even Hitler. Then, in March 1944, the Germans invaded Hungary. Here is the moving and dramatic account of one woman's courage in the face of war, and of a love that spanned three decades. From the agony of separation to the horrors of a concentration camp, from her marriage to Otto Schimmel, an Auschwitz survivor who promised her a new life in America, through the joy and struggle of raising a family, Betty never forgot her first love. Then, in 1975, she returned to Budapest and saw someone across a crowded room...To See You Again is Betty Schimmel's wrenching memoir of survival and sacrifice, of love lost and love found. A true story that unfolds with all the suspense of a novel, it is one that will not soon be forgotten.

Love in the Mist of Horror

I found this true powerful love story a page-turner. Betty was just a teenager when she fell in love with her schoolmate Richie. Betty, her mother Ethel, her sister Rose and a brother Larry were in Hungry during the Nazi occupation. Her father worked in the Underground aiding fellow Jews. Betty kept ties with Richie for as long as she could despite the fact that the Nazis took the Jews on long marches, constantly moving...

YES....THIS STORY IS FACT

I have met Betty Schimmel and her husband Otto. How anyone can say her story is fiction is beyond me. Yes, both Betty and her husband Otto survived the concentration camps. The deep emotions of her story are still evident in her voice and face. This is a true life story about both the horrors of war and being a Jew in WWII Europe and of true love.True, this is not an ending to give away. Read Betty's story. It will rip...

Riveting love story with historical accuracy

"To See you again" is one of the most touching stories I have read in ages. It is a riveting tale that holds the reader throughout its entirety. Although much of the story takes place in Hungary during the Holocaust, the mood is one of hope & even joy in a time & place when it is least expected. The characters become bigger-than-life & you feel as if you are there with them. I enjoyed this book completely and...

A gut wrenching story of love, war and amazing courage.

I normally would not be drawn to love stories, nor stories involving the holocaust. However, this book was impossible to put down. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to get a better feel for what life was like under Nazi rule, and to hear an amazing story of a love that never died.
