Twain's Tale With a Twist: TOM, HUCK, and BECKY is far more than a retelling of 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'. This version leaves out archaic words and racial slurs. Plus, it's Twain's tale with a twist: all three characters serve as narrators and Becky sneaks out of bed in search of graveyard adventures just as often as Tom and Huck do. Why change a classic? Ask any kid who has read even three pages of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: Twain's writing style seems ancient and his vocabulary is, at times, impossible. (Twain's original novel contains 220 pages of small print, a glossary to define words like adamantine and ambuscade (not to mention spile), as well as footnotes that explain obscure historical references.)
