Mackenzie (Mac) Callahan has started a new DEA undercover assignment in the small town of Cherokee Springs, Tennessee under the guise of an author. He has been sent in to investigate the increase of drugs in the surrounding area, and the decrease of busts. To Mac this is a red flag that the local law is being paid off, but a wrinkle in that theory is that the longtime sheriff was just recently murdered. His daughter, Rilla Devane was tapped to serve out his current term. When Mac and Rilla meet, it is instant heat, but he suspects Rilla of being tied to the drug connection, and Rilla suspects Mac is involved. Mac is tall, dark, and sexy while Rilla tall, dark, and exotic. They are unable to deny the attraction between them, and eventually give in. As their investigations continue, and Mac is exposed, the stakes are raised as it becomes obvious that someone in Rilla's department has turned. Added into the mix is a contract killer, leaving Mac and Rilla unable to trust anyone. This was a fast paced suspenseful read! I liked the characters of Mac and Rilla, but also the many supporting characters. All were well written and well developed.
