Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Don't believe the previous reviews! This was a great book! I thoroughly enjoyed it from the first page to the last. It has permanent place on my keeper shelf. Granted, it's not your predictable, same old, same old romance. (Maybe that's why the previous reviewers didn't like it). It has fully developed characters that are likeable and realistic and admirable, but not always perfect. I enjoyed the setting of New York in the 1850's. I loved that the main characters were regular people instead of aristocrats. The love story develops beautifully and is sweet and tender but not mushy. I only wish Elizabeth DeLancey would write more. I don't think she's written anything in many years,(at least nothing that I've found). All I can say is, that it's a shame the second reviewer could not "bother" to finish the book before she reviewed it! I'm sure she would have changed her mind if she had finished it. Don't cheat yourself of a great read because of the first two reviews. Get it and see for yourself! In fact, even though I've reread A Touch of Lace many times, I think I'll go and reread it again!
