Genesis represents the first section of a historical narrative that extends to 2 Kings chapter 25. It is the book of origins and, as regards its content, it can be divided into two unequal parts: the primeval period, 1.1 to 11.26, and the patriarchal period, 11.27 to 50.26.Genesis especially emphasizes such themes as divine election (compare Romans 9: 7-12) and providence .
