Tree Listener: an eco-thriller

Homeland Security secretly calls together a team of scientists to respond to what they say is a bioterrorism attack. Daniel Frost, a botanist recruited to this elite group, is given an additional task by Homeland Security: investigate his fellow scientist, Alia Kerrigan, as the terrorist responsible for the attack. Daniel finds that Alia has been linked with environmental radicals, and is lovers with a shaman-turned-activist wanted for terrorist acts in Chile. It takes Daniel longer to discover the intricate web of corporate influence woven throughout Homeland Security. But Alia has launched her own investigation. The Nonsantis Corporation has been sabotaging her research challenging the safety of their genetically modified crops. And Nonsantis seems to have significant influence over Homeland Securitys policy. Alia and a handful of other ???radical scientists quickly discover the trutha gene-modifying ???accident released a retrovirus that turned off the trees ability to bloom, and the mutation is rapidly spreading, threatening to destroy food crops worldwide. Except for those crops already genetically modified by Nonsantis. Inside the trees genes lives a code that can help them defeat the mutation, if Alia can find a means of communicating this defense to the trees before Daniels dragnet finds her. Facing her fears and grief for her murdered lover, and placing her trust in unlikely and mysterious allies, Alia has to leave behind the tools of science to take the bold and dangerous path of the shaman.
