Often, trigonometry students leave class believing that they understand a concept but are unable to apply that understanding when they get home and attempt their homework problems. This mainstream yet innovative text is written by an experienced professor who has identified this gap as one of the biggest challenges that trigonometry professors face. She uses a clear voice that speaks directly to students- similar to how instructors communicate to them in class. Students learning from this text will overcome common barriers to learning trigonometry and will build confidence in their ability to do mathematics.
This book was required for the college level trigonometry class I completed last semester. The book does a great job introducing a student to the basics of trig. I purchased the corresponding solutions manual which helped explain the homework even though the answers to the odd numbered homework problems are listed in the back of the trig book. Trigonometry by Cynthia A. Young also includes supplementary pages pertaining to the Algebra you are expected to have already learned prior to enrolling in the class. The inside covers contain illustrations and definitions of the math formulas and trig identities you are required to learn and memorize for each chapter. There are review problems at the end of each chapter and practice tests. One thing I found exceptionally helpful in this book was the instructions in the margin on how to use the calculator to work the trig problems. It is designed for TI calculators. The book is hardcover and held up exceptionally well. (My chemistry book by a different publisher lost pages after the first couple of weeks.) I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn basic trig functions.
